DIY Composition Notebook Gift

Hello, Diana here again today! I want to share a quick inexpensive gift for birthdays or teachers or whoever needs a gift. When it comes to gifts I prefer to hand make them if I can, giving it my personal touch. One of my favorite gifts to give are covered composition books.

I purchased my composition books at Walmart for .50. I have a stock pile of about 6, it really doesn’t matter what color you buy you will be covering them up. When I opened my box of Desert Springs I knew I wanted to make a covered composition book!

What you will need for a covered composition book:

1. Chose 2 sheets that you will want for your covers, also choose 2 sheets that you will want for the inner part of your covers. (If you want to add more detail you may include washi tape, and border strips)
2. I measured my outer covers and cut my paper to 6 3/4” x 9 3/4”.
3. Cut the inner parts of the covers to 7 1/2” x 9 3/4”.
4. Cut border down to 9 3/4”.

I assemble a lot of my cover BEFORE I adhere it to my composition book.

1. *IF you are using border strips & washi tape* adhere border about 1/4” away from the edge that will but up to the black edge on the left side. Then adhere the washi tape slightly covering the edge of your border and folding over toward the back of the paper cutting off the ends.
2. I then sewed the straight stitch down the edge of the border on the washi tape.
3. Using my ATG gun (leaving space so that when I sewed I didn’t sew through the glue) I adhered my front covers. using my scissors I trimmed around the corners and any excess paper.
4. Again using my ATG gun making sure to a lot for sewing I adhered my inner covers and trimmed the excess.
5. I sewed slowly around the edges of the paper. (I like to sew around the edges instead of glue, but if you don’t want to sew you don’t have to!)
6. And you’re done!

This may sound a little detailed but really these come together QUICKLY--like 20 minutes! It’s fun to involve my kids in the choosing of the paper and embellishments that are included.

Thanks for stopping by!

Diana

Another great project you have shared with us this week. I have not covered a composition book for a while and your blog has sparked me to create one soon.
