3D Paper Doll

While I was growing up, my Mom spent a lot of time creating dolls. There were all kinds of dolls, made with all kinds of things. I loved the idea of creating 3D paper dolls for different occasions. I had a lot of fun coming up with this doll. I was initially trying to create an angel for the season. The wings proved a bit of a challenge and weren't looking the way I wanted them to. I eventually ran out of time and I decided to go back to create a little girl (my son is now demanding that I create a little boy ;).

I chose to use the paper from the Berry Melody collection for the majority of the doll. It was the perfect colour combination for a little girl. The hair was created using paper from the Mirelle collection and the embellishments are from the both the Berry Melody and the Holiday Traditions sundries packages.

The doll's head is created using a Styrofoam ball. The dress is a circle of patterned paper, slit along the radius, with the edges inked to give the dress an appearance of more layers. I found that I really needed to be generous with adhesive. I used a combination of regular adhesive, foam dots (to keep the dimension), glue dots as well as a double-sided tape.

This is the third 3D doll I've made and so far it is the most sturdy and least likely to fall apart :) It is an evolving design that I am really enjoying. I hope I've inspired you to think a little 3D with your paper!

Happy creating!
